#1 First Nepali Rest. in NY
🏆 Village Voice Best Tibetan
Himalayan food spread Momo dumplings

New York's First
Nepali Restaurant

Nestled on Roosevelt Avenue in the heart of Jackson Heights — the most culturally diverse neighborhood on Earth — Himalayan Yak has been a culinary beacon since 2004. We were the first Nepali restaurant to open in New York City, and we remain one of its most beloved.

Our menu journeys across the Himalayan range: from Nepal's soul-warming Dal Bhat Tarkari and Tibet's hand-pulled noodles, to Bhutan's fiery Ema Datshi and India's fragrant curries. Every plate carries the spirit of the mountains.

We source fresh yak meat from a Vermont farm each summer, served as shapta or the adventurous Cheley — yak tongue with bread. We were featured on ABC's Ugly Betty, and named Best Tibetan Restaurant by The Village Voice.

From Jackson Heights regulars to visitors from across NYC — Himalayan Yak leaves a lasting impression.

Recently went with a group of 6 for dinner. Decor was a beautiful blend of modern elements and traditional Tibetan and Nepali artwork. The chicken lollipop, wai wai sadeko, and beef jhol momo were all exceptional. The customer service was impeccable — attentive and friendly throughout.

WE LOVE THIS PLACE. We always get the Wai Wai Sandeko — their signature. I get it spicy. The crispy tofu in sweet and spicy sauce was perfectly crisped. Everything is well mixed and full of flavor. Prices are very reasonable for the portions.

The pork chilli and momos are heavenly. Pair it with the fiery Yak Kickstarter and you're set for a great dinner. Raksha and the crew rock this joint — a true hidden gem in Jackson Heights Queens.

What can I say besides yummmm! Everything I had — the fried rice, the noodles, the Momos — all excellent with so much flavor. Highly recommend. The beef steamed momo were perfect, and the hand-pulled flat noodle soup with chicken was so comforting.
Yelp Reviewer Jackson Heights, NY Yelp
This is the OG place in terms of Nepali food and they deliver all the way to Brooklyn. The best MoMo (Dumpling) in New York City. Nice atmosphere, reasonable prices, and helpful staff. Located in the heart of Jackson Heights.

Himalayan Yak gets fresh yak meat from a Vermont farm each summer — the yak shapta and cheley are unlike anything in the city. But even if you're not yak-curious, the curries, noodle dishes, and dumplings alone are more than worth the trip.
